Demands from the Palestinian Prisoners' Movement After a Palestinian Ex-prisoners Tested Positive for the Corona-virus

Today, 1 April 2020, after announcing that one Palestinian ex-prisoner, Nour al-Deen Sarsour, tested positive for the corona-virus, the Palestinian prisoners’ movement releases a number of demands. Nour al-Deen was arrested on 18 March 2020 and released yesterday, 31 March 2020 for section 14 at Ofer prison.

The Palestinian prisoners’ movement asked for immediate actions to be taken for their protection, they asked for testing all prisoners at Ofer for the corona-virus, especially that section 13 which is located next to section 14 has children detainees. Prisoners also demanded that the Israeli Prisoner Services (IPS) start conducting the daily count via cameras and from a distance. Furthermore, prisoners demanded that the daily searches also change and that IPS officers start conducing the window searches from outside rather than entering their rooms and cells every day. This comes especially crucial for prisoners since IPS officers do not stay in the prisons though they are continuing their daily lives normally with movement in and out of the prisons. Thus, those officers are of great danger of the lives of Palestinian prisoners, especially with the rapidly increasing numbers of corona-virus cases in the occupying state.
