Military Court of Appeal in Offer Reduces Amal Nakhleh’s Administrative Detention Period

On 22 February 2021, the Israeli military court of appeal in Ofer issued a judgment reducing the administrative detention period against Amal Nakhleh, 17 years old, to four months instead of six months due to his health condition. This decision came after Addameer’s request to appeal Ofer Israeli military court’s confirmation of Amal Nakhleh’s administrative detention order for the entire duration of six months.

Since he was arrested on 21 January 2021, Amal Nakhleh has been detained in Megiddo prison, located inside the Occupying Power’s territory, in violation of Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Amal Nakhla suffers from myasthenia gravis and shortness of breath, which requires special medical care, including regular medication and constant monitoring of the symptoms to avoid possible health risks and complications. The majority of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons and detention centers are subjected to harsh living conditions that do not align with the bare minimum of adequate living standards.
