Ramallah - Addameer: The Israeli occupation authorities continue to detain hundreds of Palestinians arrested from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. These detainees are held in camps and prisons that lack the most basic standards of human life. Specifically, detainees in Sde Teiman and Ofer military camps and Naqab prison are subjected to extremely harsh conditions, including systematic torture, ill-treatment, and deliberate medical neglect, in blatant violation of all international conventions. These brutal policies have led to the death of dozens of detainees inside these prisons and camps. However, the exact number of martyrs who have died in these facilities remains unknown due to the occupation's ongoing policy of enforced disappearance since the early days of the genocide.
Harsh Conditions Amid Severe Cold in Naqab Prison:
Prisoners in Naqab Prison live in exposed tent sections that offer no adequate protection from harsh weather conditions. Despite the severe cold wave hitting the region for weeks, prisoners were only provided with winter clothing a week ago, meaning they spent a long period wearing summer clothes unsuitable for the weather. Additionally, there is a severe shortage of clothing and blankets, exposing them to illness and extreme cold.
Disease Spread and Medical Neglect:
Scabies has widely spread among the prisoners due to their harsh living conditions and the absence of personal hygiene supplies. There is also an almost complete lack of necessary medical care. The treatment provided is extremely limited and insufficient to contain the disease's spread. The occupation authorities deliberately delayed providing treatment, leading to an uncontrollable outbreak. Signs and sores have appeared on the detainees' bodies due to the disease. Notably, several prisoner martyrs died from complications related to the scabies infection, which continues to spread among them.
Malnutrition and Lack of Hygiene:
All prisoners in occupation prisons suffer from malnutrition, especially detainees from Gaza in the camps and prisons designated for them. They reported the poor quality and insufficient
quantity of food provided, causing severe weight loss and negatively impacting their overall health. Some prisoners have lost half their body weight during their detention.
Additionally, they suffer from poor hygiene conditions in the prison sections. One bottle of shampoo is distributed among 150 to 200 prisoners, and for the past year, prisoners were forced to bathe in cold water. Hot water was only allowed two weeks ago. Each prisoner is forced to use a single plastic cup for all their daily needs.
Repeated Assaults:
Palestinian prisoners, especially those from Gaza, suffer from repeated and severe assaults in all Israeli camps and prisons. These daily assaults include various forms of physical and psychological torture. Physical assaults involve brutal beatings and prolonged shackling in painful positions. Psychological torture includes threats, prolonged isolation from their families, and deliberate denial of contact with the outside world. These practices are systematically aimed at destroying the physical and psychological health of the detainees, putting their lives in serious danger.
