Ramallah, 14 November 2012 – Addameer researcher and human rights defender Ayman Nasser today had his period of interrogation extended by a further nine day. This is the sixth time Ayman’s period of interrogation has been extended. Ayman has now spent 31 consecutive days in Israeli interrogation.
Ayman, who was arrested by Israeli occupying forces on 15 October, appeared today at Ofer military court in the West Bank. The prosecution requested that Ayman’s interrogation period be extended for 12 days, but following the intervention of Addameer lawyer Mahmoud Hassan this was reduced to nine days.
Addameer is extremely concerned for Ayman, considering that many of his interrogation sessions are lasting over 20 hours and he is being held in extremely painful stress positions during these interrogations. As previously reported Ayman continues to be denied his mediation that he needs for pre-existing health issues. Also, when not in interrogation Ayman continues to be held in isolation, in a windowless cell (1.5 meters by 2 meters), with a light continuously on and cold air continuously coming from the air condition.
Addameer calls on the international community to intervene immediately with the Israeli authorities to ensure Ayman’s release, in particular the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders.
