Harsh conditions and systematic abuse of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons...
Ramlah Prison Clinic, Megiddo Prison, Damon Prison...

For more than 17 months, Israeli occupation authorities have been continuing their campaigns of abuse against Palestinian prisoners inside prisons and detention camps, as part of a systematic repressive policy amid the ongoing genocide war targeting the Palestinian people.

Since the first day of the aggression, the occupation authorities have launched an extensive campaign of arrests, targeting tens of thousands of Palestinians from various governorates, villages, and refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. These arrests have been accompanied by a dangerous escalation inside the prisons, where the prison administration has imposed comprehensive repressive measures against the prisoners, including policies of starvation and thirst, total isolation from the outside world, preventing family visits, and obstructing lawyer visits. The IPS also confiscated all electrical appliances in the prison sections and followed a policy of deliberate medical neglect, in addition to committing crimes of torture and ill-treatment against prisoners and detainees which led to the martyrdom of 62 prisoners in the past period, whose identities are known, in addition to the martyrdom of several prisoners from Gaza in the camps and prisons, amid the continued policy of enforced disappearance against them.

Conditions worsened further with the arrival of the month of Ramadan, as the prison administration intentionally provided poor and insufficient meals, without offering “suhoor” (pre-dawn meal), forcing the prisoners to save part of their food to meet their basic needs. Furthermore, personal hygiene items were reduced, and the prisons became overcrowded with prisoners, leading to the spread of scabies in most prisons, without providing the necessary medication or proper healthcare, deepening the suffering of the prisoners to this day.

The Ramlah Prison Clinic is considered one of the most prominent examples of the deliberate medical neglect policy adopted by the Israeli occupation prison authorities against sick and injured prisoners. The clinic lacks the most basic healthcare essentials and is devoid of qualified medical staff capable of handling serious and critical cases. Despite the transfer of several sick and injured prisoners to the clinic, the suffering continues without providing appropriate treatment or necessary medical follow-up. Prisoners are often left there to suffer the worsening of their illnesses and injuries with no real intervention.

Currently, about 24 prisoners with chronic illnesses, serious injuries, or permanent disabilities are being held in the Ramlah Prison Clinic, amidst extremely poor health conditions, a lack of medication, and the absence of regular medical check-ups. There is also a policy of delaying the transfer of critical cases to civilian hospitals. These practices are part of a systematic policy aimed at exhausting sick prisoners both mentally and physically and exposing their lives to direct danger.

Children in Damon and Megiddo Prisons: Ongoing Suffering

Palestinian children detained in Israeli occupation prisons have endured compounded suffering for years, which has worsened dramatically after the recent genocide war. The occupation authorities have intensified arrest campaigns targeting children, and these children, who are held in Megiddo, Damon, and Ofer prisons, face harsh and inhumane conditions. Their suffering begins from the moment of violent arrest, often during night raids, and continues through harsh interrogation periods where they are denied their basic rights. This is in addition to starvation, thirst, and other forms of abuse. Following the genocide war, punitive policies against them have increased; they suffer from isolation, medical neglect, physical and psychological abuse, and deprivation of family visits.

Increasing Restrictions on Palestinian Female Prisoners

In Damon Prison, Palestinian female prisoners are subjected to systematic oppression, with the prison authorities imposing collective punishments on them. These include repeated raids of their rooms, confiscation of personal belongings, reduction of recreation time, and failure to provide adequate clothing and blankets. The authorities also practice additional isolation by limiting and obstructing lawyer visits, cutting off communication with them for long periods, and depriving them of contact with their families and children.

The female prisoners also suffer from medical neglect and are denied necessary treatment, as there are delays in addressing medical conditions and refuse to transfer them to the prison clinic, which itself lacks basic treatment facilities, putting the lives of many female prisoners at direct risk.

The continuation of these grave violations against Palestinian prisoners, both male and female, constitutes a flagrant breach of international and humanitarian laws, and underscores the retaliatory approach taken by the occupying authorities to impose further isolation and oppression on Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
